After a couple weeks of studying the characters of ours, my group and I have decided to do a video for our final assignment. We chose to focus on an individual. A one women's show.

From our findings, we narrowed down to 2 main things/subject that haunts women's life these days.

First, society. Society has always set a sort of expectation that women must uphold. Many people might not notice but it happens everyday in our life. Let me give you a few examples that might make you think.

Examples

"That driver must be a women, look at the way she's driving the car. They hardly use their brakes and their signal"/ "Look at her, who does she think she is, wearing those heels"/ "She's so fake, she wears layers of make up"

Society causes women to feel insecure. No doubt. Especially now with everything is being digitalised, women has to reach a certain "standard" to be socially accepted. And that sucks. It really does.

Second is abuse. It is very obvious that the female gender has to deal with abuse more than the opposite sex. The type of abuse varies from emotional and physical abuse, and the most common of all, sexual abuse. Women get raped, killed, forced into marriages and so many more terrible things you could think of.

Now why is this? Is it because women is vulnerable? Women is weak and we play the submissive role in a relationship or generally in life?

This is why my group and I have decided to make a video to show that women are strong and now, stronger than ever to defeat stereotype, society's expectations of women and being weak. We want to showcase that the more women get beaten down, they rise back up better and stronger. Because? Because we are unbreakable.

There were 2 initial ideas for the story line of our video.

IDEA 1

First we’ll see a girl in a black hoodie, in a box labelled “cage of insecurities”. She’ll crouching in the box, looking depressed. She’s fed up with everything. She will then be seen picking up her phone and calling 2 abusers that have abused her. She called them so that she can get things straight.

When these 2 anonymous people arrive at the destination, the girl was already standing in the middle of the hall. They’ll be a bunch of people standing behind her, which represents her. Her "shadows" These "shadows" will hold up signs that describe what kind of abuse she has been through, eg; being crushed down, being beaten up psychologically and physically, being looked down, getting no respect. And one by one she’ll give a speech, that is the opposite of the signs that is being held by the shadows, and while she says that, the shadow man will break the signs, one by one. Until every shadow man has broken their sign, there will only be one person left in the back or the middle, wearing a different colour shirt/hoodie than the group, preferably bright colours like red or yellow. He’ll walk forward and put on a hoodie on the the girl (with the hood on the girl’s head) the hoodie will represent that she is a fighter. When the girl is saying her final words, she’ll take of her hoodie of her headband forgive to the 2 abusers that has given her so much pain, in which we’ll reveal the 2 abusers, which is ‘society’ and ‘stereotypes’. After she finishes her speech or conversation, she’ll walk away from the 2 abusers, leaving them 2 being guilty, with their head down.

IDEA 2 (same plot but different approach)

In the past, the girl was very cheerful. One day, an anonymous decided to give her a mysterious bag. Now in the present, she is seen being depressed. She is finally fed up with the fact that she’s doing nothing with her life. Shes fed up how each day is being wasted. Finally she’s called up the person that gave the mysterious bag so that they can meet up. When they finally met up, the girl will stand in front of the anonymous, with a table piled with a stack of paper on her right and a rubbish bin on her left. Each piece of paper is written one typical women stereotype that the girl had to follow. One by one she’ll tell the anonymous in the face saying: “ 5 years ago you gave me (a stereotype), but I'm tired of doing this. I am…..(something powerful). After that, she’ll tear the piece of paper and throw it into the bin. She’ll continue to do that with the other pieces of paper. When she’s done, she’ll be seen tying a knot on the rubbish bag that is filled with the torn paper, and giving to the anonymous ( the bag will be called a bag of stereotypes, which will be revealed when she takes the rubbish bag of the rubbish bag). We will then reveal the anonymous is “society”. The girl will then say something like “here's the bag u gave me 5 years ago. A bag that has totally crushed my life. Take it back and never return it.” ‘Society’ will be seen holding the bag and the girl will be seen walking away from him, with a smile on her face, feeling free like never before, leaving society behind.

These are the 2 initial ideas we had for or video. We were told to refine our ideas, write them out in a more detailed way and also sketch our the scenes. Then, present it to Mr Charles the following week.
